My definition of a ball hog is a jerk who only cares about his/her stats, shoots all of the time, and doesn’t care about the team. Wikipedia is much more politically correct, but both of us are making the same point…… don’t be a ball hog.
Yes we all like to score, we all like to see 30 points next to our name and we all love to hear the cheers of the crowd. Being a ball hog may get you some of those things, but in the end you will be losing out. Your teammates will not like you, you may end up on the bench, and teams that are fueled by ball hogs usually lose. You choose a team sport so guess what, you need to actually be a member of the team.
Parents, you know who you are, please stop telling little Johnny or Amy that they are the best on their team and they should shoot ALL of the time. We know it gives you a deep satisfaction when your kid has the most points, but you are creating a monster. Please learn what the term assist means and cheer accordingly.
Learn to pass, play defense, and rebound. Learn to be a team player, and most importantly Don’t Be A Ball Hog!
