What better way to start out the Halloween Edition of Mother and Son Sports then with some fun facts courtesy of www.History.com and www.randomhistory.com. If you have any fun or interesting facts you would like to share make sure to comment below!
1. Black and Orange are the two most prominent colors associated with Halloween.
Orange is a symbol of strength and endurance and, along with brown and gold, stands for the harvest and autumn.
Black is typically a symbol of death and darkness and acts as a reminder that Halloween once was a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.
Sports teams that adorn the Orange and Black colors are as follows; Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco Giants!
2. Dressing up as ghouls and other spooks originated from the ancient Celtic tradition of townspeople disguising themselves as demons and spirits. The Celts believed that disguising themselves this way would allow them to escape the notice of the real spirits wandering the streets during Samhain.
3. 90 % of parents admit to sneaking treats from their kids trick or treat bags! Well duh! I prefer the Kit Kats and Snickers bars but I have to be really careful because those are also Kaden’s favorites! Typically I can get away with sneaking a Reese Peanut Butter Cup.
The most tricky (pun intended) candy for me is the tootsie roll, I really don’t even like them but once I start out I can eat about ten in a matter of minutes. So weird how that happens!
4. U. S. growers produce 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins per year! Why you say? Because we are a country obsessed with pumpkin everything during the fall. We have successfully figured out how to incorporate pumpkin into every food and drink that we are consuming. Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin doughnuts, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!
5. The first Jack O’ Lanterns were actually made of turnips. Check back in with Mother and Son Sports later in the month to read about why I stink at carving pumpkins!
Hope you enjoyed these five fun facts and please continue to check in for more sports and Halloween talk!
