Sports Mom Fun – Organized Sports Mom

Disclaimer: Sports mom fun is all about poking fun at the wonderful sports mom’s in the world today (including myself). The intent is not to hurt anyone’s feelings or to be cruel. It’s good to laugh and make fun of ourselves at times, so please join in on the sports mom fun and enjoy!

Organized sports mom is………….. well she is organized. Organized sports mom has it all together and you can see it the minute she walks into the sporting event. Fashion sense, perfect hair, perfect husband (or wife), perfect kids, perfect everything. Organized sports moms family is an extension of her and you can bet that they will be following in step without a hair out of place. Timeliness is big on organized sports mom’s agenda and you can expect her to arrive at least 15 minutes before the game.

Pros – Organized sports mom typically carries a huge purse and in that purse she has EVERYTHING! Need a band aid, gum, hand sanitizer, sewing kit, ace bandage, film, extra I-phone, go ahead and ask organized sports mom because I guarantee you she has it. Organized sports mom also is  helpful for fund raising events, snack schedules and to essentially keep everyone else on track. Organized sports mom steps up to the plate so you don’t have to :).

Cons – Just watching organized sports mom will make you feel like you don’t have it all together. She makes it look easy and after you just struggled to make it to the game on time, while downing a coke and spilling cheese fry sauce on you shirt organized sports mom may be the last person you want to see. Organized sports mom will also try to get you involved, so if you don’t like fund raising or are a classic introvert then steer clear.

Mother and Son Sports salutes you organized sports mom, you are always prepared and you are that special force behind the scenes making sure that the concession stand and fundraising events all run smoothly!

Kaden’s Monday Night Recap

The Atlanta Falcons, and New York Jets played this Monday night’s football game. The Jets record was 2-2, and the Falcons record was 1-3. The score ended up being 30-28 and the Falcons lost.

The best player was Matt Ryan because I like him and think he is a good Quarterback. The Jets defense was a little bit better though.

I hate to say it but I think the Jets are waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Falcons this year.

Football Basics – Safety or Safety?

As Kaden and I were watching the Sunday night football game a few weeks ago, the broadcaster started making the comments about the safety making a tackle. Kaden, who knows quite a bit about the game for a seven year old was immediately confused and started asking why the other team was getting two points? It took me about a half a second to realize that he heard the word safety and automatically thought about the other safety in Football. Yes folks, there are two safety’s in football and Mother and Son Sports is here for you to clear up the Safety or Safety confusion!

Safety (The Position) – The first safety that we will discuss is actually a defensive position. The safety is a defensive player that lines up ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage (where the quarterback and offensive line are). The safety is responsible for covering wide receivers and is usually the last line of defense. If the Wide Receiver gets around or behind the safety that typically means big trouble for the defense.

Safety (The Points) – The other safety is a way to score points on the football field. Below are the following ways that a safety can occur (courtesy of Wikipedia).

  • The ball carrier is tackled in his own end zone
  • The ball becomes dead in the end zone, with the exception of an incomplete forward pass, and the defending team is responsible for it being there
  • The offense commits a foul in its own end zone

As you can see there is quite a big difference between both safety’s! One is a player and the other equals points. Please continue to check back in with Mother and Son Sports for more on football terms! We are clearing up confusion one yard at a time!

Fun Halloween Facts

What better way to start out the Halloween Edition of Mother and Son Sports then with some fun facts courtesy of www.History.com and www.randomhistory.com. If you have any fun or interesting facts you would like to share make sure to comment below!

1. Black and Orange are the two most prominent colors associated with Halloween.

Orange is a symbol of strength and endurance and, along with brown and gold, stands for the harvest and autumn.

Black is typically a symbol of death and darkness and acts as a reminder that Halloween once was a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.

Sports teams that adorn the Orange and Black colors are as follows; Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco Giants!

2. Dressing up as ghouls and other spooks originated from the ancient Celtic tradition of townspeople disguising themselves as demons and spirits. The Celts believed that disguising themselves this way would allow them to escape the notice of the real spirits wandering the streets during Samhain.

3. 90 % of parents admit to sneaking treats from their kids trick or treat bags! Well duh! I prefer the Kit Kats and Snickers bars but I have to be really careful because those are also Kaden’s favorites! Typically I can get away with sneaking a Reese Peanut Butter Cup.

The most tricky (pun intended) candy for me is the tootsie roll, I really don’t even like them but once I start out I can eat about ten in a matter of minutes. So weird how that happens!

4. U. S. growers produce 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins per year! Why you say? Because we are a country obsessed with pumpkin everything during the fall. We have successfully figured out how to incorporate pumpkin into every food and drink that we are consuming. Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin doughnuts, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!

5. The first Jack O’ Lanterns were actually made of turnips. Check back in with Mother and Son Sports later in the month to read about why I stink at carving pumpkins!

Hope you enjoyed these five fun facts and please continue to check in for more sports and Halloween talk!

My First NFL Game – Lions vs. Bears

On September 29, 2013 I got to go to my first NFL football game. I went to the game 015with my mom, Crystal, Anthony, and Margaret. The game was at the Lions stadium, Ford Field.

When we got there the Lions were losing to the Bears 10 – 9. 58 seconds later the Lions scored a touchdown! I was very excited. I got to see Reggie Bush jump over some players and score another touchdown, and then Calvin Johnson scored a touchdown.

In the second half the Lions scored some more touchdowns, but the game got close at 009the end. The Bears kept scoring and trying to catch up. The final score was the Detroit Lions 40 and Chicago Bears 32. I loved going to the game and it was the best day of my life.
